[308c]The Info menu is the traditional location of information about a program. Standard commands here allow you to access on-line help, open the Info panel, and set preferences. Here you will also find commands to register your ownership of a new copy of Concurrence, and to send suggestions to Lighthouse Design.
[219c]The panel raised by this command provides a quick summary of Concurrence and its authors. Look to the Info panel to see exactly what version of Concurrence you're running, and how to get in touch with Lighthouse Design.
[79c]Often, Info panels contain much more than is at first visible to the naked eye.

[195c]Choose Help to open a folder in the Workspace Manager which contains Concurrence files with the text of this manual. To read one, select it and choose Open from the Workspace Manager's File menu.
[203c]You can also browse these files with the Digital Librarian application. Select a folder in the top left of the Workspace Manager window, and choose Target from the Librarian submenu of the Services menu.
[8c]Help (?)
[373c]The panel raised by the License command indicates whether your copy of Concurrence is registered, and to whom. If the top line of this panel reads "This program is Unregistered," you will be unable to save or print your work, or to paste it into other programs. The Concurrence Installation Guide explains how to use the License panel to register your copy of Concurrence.

[288c]Choosing the Samples command opens a folder in the Workspace Manager. This folder contains a number of sample Concurrence documents (including those used in the chapters of Part 2, Tutorials). To view one of these samples, select it and choose Open from the Workspace Manager's File menu.
[120c]This command raises the Suggestion panel. Use it to provide Lighthouse Design with feature suggestions (or bug reports).
[282c]After entering some basic information about yourself and your company (which Concurrence will remember from session to session), click the Compose in Mail button. The information you provided will be placed into a Send window created by the Mail program. Type your suggestion there.
[146c]If your computer is on a major network, you should be able to reach us through the NeXT Mail program. Just click the Send window's Deliver button.
[199c]If you can't reach us with electronic mail, please print and mail your suggestion to us at the postal address written on the Suggestion panel. Or feel free to fax it to the number shown in the panel.
[36c]We look forward to hearing from you.

[256c]Preferences are settings that allow you to customize the way you use Concurrence. The choices you make on the Preferences panel are retained from session to session, so you don't need to configure things to your satisfaction every time you run the program.
[344c]Choosing the Preferences command raises the Preferences panel, which can display three sets of parameters. These allow you to customize Concurrence's general behavior, the way it creates new documents, and the fonts you prefer to use in various parts of the program. Choose between these settings with the pop-up button at the top of the panel.
[132c]The Behavior preferences let you customize a number of aspects
of everyday Concurrence use. Their default values are pictured here.

[178c]When Always Collapse Children is selected, collapsing a topic will also collapse its children, and their children, and so on. This behavior is illustrated on the following page.
[69c]But with Always Collapse Children selected, you'll
see this instead.
[217c]When Create Backup Files is selected, Concurrence will preserve a copy of a file before you save over it. Backup files have ~ appended to their names, so document FileName.concur will be preserved as FileName~.concur.
[151c]Setting Remember Open Documents causes Concurrence to note the documents you had open when you quit, and to reopen them when you run the program again.
[176c]If Concurrence is on your dock, and you've set your Workspace preferences to launch it when you log in, Hide on Auto-Launch will cause Concurrence to hide itself after opening.
[383c]Copy Dragged Files effects how Concurrence creates attachments to files that you drag in from the Workspace. When this preference is selected (as it is by default), files that you drag in will be copied into the receiving document. When this preference is not selected, files that you drag in will be attached as absolute links. See Chapter 13, Attachments, for more on this subject.
[197c]Emacs is a popular text editor used by programmers Use Emacs Key Bindings lets those familiar with Emacs use a number of its standard control-key functions for working around Concurrence documents.
[66c]A summary of these bindings may be found in Appendix B, Shortcuts.
[9c] Behavior
[254c]The New Documents preference lets you dictate what happens when you choose New from the Document menu. Your choice here is also effective when you start running Concurrence, if you haven't selected the Remember Open Documents preference, described above.
[77c]The default setting for the New Documents preference is Create
Outline View.
[245c]When Create Outline View is selected, new documents will be created with an Outline view. Similarly, you'll see a slide view if you choose New and Create Slide View is selected. In both cases, the document's view browser will be visible as well.
[514c]Instead of settling for the default outline and slide views that Concurrence creates, you may wish to take control over how your new documents look. Selecting Use Template instructs Concurrence to make a copy of the file you specify when New is chosen. Specify the file to use as a template by clicking the Set Template button, or by dragging a file icon from the Workspace to the Preferences panel. You may also want to read about the Document menu's New from Template command, discussed in the following chapter.
[97c]Use the Fonts preferences to tell Concurrence what fonts to use
for new Outline and Slide views.
[14c] New Documents
[221c]When you create new Outline views, their topics will default to the font of the Preference panel's Outline sample text. Similarly, new Slide Views will use the font you set for the Slide Title and Slide Body sample text.
[182c]To set a preferred font, select the appropriate sample text and use the Font panel. Clicking one of the Set Font buttons will raise the Font panel and select the sample text for you.
